Interior and Exterior Painting Trends for 2017

April 4th, 2017

Choosing how to paint the inside or outside of your home can be tough, especially as trends differ from season to season. Changes in trends in color palettes are largely decided by the pros at paint companies like Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams. Regardless of your tastes, there are choices for every person—and every home—to be excited about this year.

For 2017, the experts are highlighting warm, bold colors for both indoor and outdoor painting. Sherwin Williams, for example, is offering a layered yellow interior paint known as Bee. This lively and positively sunny shade would go great in a foyer or breakfast nook. Similarly vibrant and sure to make a statement is Benjamin Moore’s Dark Burgundy. This choice would work well in any home’s interior.

Sherwin Williams, in particular, is offering a highly appealing set of warm colors known as their intrepid collection. Citronella, a stellar mixture of dark yellow and orange, would make a great complement to a master bedroom or kitchen. Out of the same collection, Dahlia paint is a great way to give a home’s exterior a makeover. Homes in warmer areas would stand out in hot weather with this cooling and calming shade of light blue.

For those living in colder weather, consider updating your home’s fascia with warmer, more welcoming tones. Sherwin Williams’ aptly named Rave Red paint brings a farmhouse style to any residence, and makes it a beacon of comfort in snowy weather. Their Saguaro paint offers a similar curb appeal. The subtle greenish hue makes a home’s exterior unique and bold, but we’d also like to see it inside a living room or sunroom, too.

One standout color this season that could suit both the inside or outside of your home is Benjamin Moore’s color of the year: Shadow. The color experts describe it as “Rich, royal amethyst can fade into the soft lilac-grey of distant mountains or morph into lustrous coal.” This is an apt way to depict this mysterious grey shade that can seem either light or dark depending on its surroundings. It would be well suited on the outside of a home with white trim to let it truly pop, or used inside to create a dramatic setting in a seating room or guest bedroom.

Whether you’re looking to update your kitchen’s color, bring new shades into your living room, or completely change your home’s curb appeal, there are a plethora of fun options to choose from in 2017.
